Naturopathic Doctor Christine Doherty, ND
Dr. Christine Doherty specializes in the natural medicine approach to gluten intolerance and celiac disease. Her extensive knowledge of the symptoms and treatment of celiac disease, and her own personal experience with the illness have allowed her to help thousands of people recover and lead full lives. She was 1 of the top 50 international celiac experts invited to contribute to the American Gastroenterological Association’s award-winning 2010 book Real Life With Celiac Disease. She started GlutenFreeVitamins.com in 2005, where she formulates C-liac Vitality vitamins, a line of supplements for the specific needs of people who are gluten free because she has found the gluten free diet isn’t always enough to make a complete recovery.
Dr. Doherty is a sought-after national speaker and the author of countless articles on celiac disease and gluten intolerance. She has lectured nationally at the New England Celiac Conference, The Gluten Intolerance Groups conferences, the Integrative Healthcare Symposium, The Teton Wellness Festival, The American Association of Naturopathic Physicians convention, the Northwest Naturopathic Physicians conference and the New Hampshire Association of Naturopathic Doctors conference to name a few. She wrote a column called “Super Supplements” for Living Without, a national magazine on food allergies and intolerance. One of her articles on super foods inspired an article in the Chicago Tribune in 2009.
She was interviewed by the founder of Functional Medicine, Jeffrey Bland, PhD and was honored to be named ‘Clinician of the month” in June 2009, for the Functional Medicine Update series. You can listen to the half hour interview below, where Dr. Doherty will discuss her medical history and her approach to working with gluten based conditions.

Dr. Doherty has been privileged to work with thousands of people from all over the United States and from Japan, Australia, England, Denmark, Bermuda, France, The Virgin Islands, Dubai, Canada and Nepal.
Dr. Doherty was drawn to naturopathic medicine in the early 1990’s because of her own chronic health issues. Since childhood, she had suffered from rashes, IBS, anemia, bone pain, frequent infections and bruising. Her health deteriorated and she suffered from anxiety, depression, infertility, trigeminal neuralgia, migraines and almost constant stomach pain. She was twice misdiagnosed with cancer and had half of her small intestine, two thirds of her colon, ten lymph nodes, her gall bladder, appendix, ilioceccal valve removed in 2001. Then went in to immune failure for two years. Despite visits to physicians of all different specialties, no one could explain her chronic symptoms. In 2003, she discovered one of the sources of her chronic illness: celiac disease. In 2010 she was diagnosed with a benign brain tumor that was causing debilitating spinal headaches and loss of motor function. She has brain surgery to remove the tumor and has made an excellent recovery although she has residual, mild cerebellar ataxia. In 2011 she had two surgical cardiac ablations for SupraVentricular Tachycardia, a condition she was born with that caused her heart rate to shoot up dangerously. She has learned a lot about what quality of life means, why it is important to listen to people and how it is possible to defy the odds and really live a full life!
